IFCA News Under the Dome

Members of the Illinois House of Representatives returned to Springfield this week for three days of session, while the members of the Senate remained in their districts this week, focusing only on a handful of appropriation committees out of Chicago. The House began hearing Senate bills in House Committees this week as the final stretch of the spring session comes into view. The next major legislative deadline is May 9, by which the House must hear Senate bills in committee and the Senate must hear House bills in committee. Bills not heard in committee by May 9 may not progress through the legislative process this spring.
 
The House Revenue & Finance Committee and House International Relations, Tourism, and Trade Committee held a joint subject matter hearing on Thursday on the impact the tariffs have on the state, particularly, the state's revenue. Ag tariffs were one of the major issues talked about at the hearing, especially on Canadian potash.
